Joe Besser was an American actor, comedian, and writer who was born on August 12, 1907, in St. Louis, Missouri. He is best known for his work as a member of the comedy team, The Three Stooges. Besser joined the Stooges in 1956, replacing Shemp Howard, and stayed with the group until it disbanded in 1959.
Besser was known for his catchphrase "Not so fast, buddy" and his comedic talents, which included physical slapstick humor and witty one-liners. Before he joined the Stooges, Besser had a successful career as a comedian, appearing in films, television shows, and on radio programs.
After leaving the Stooges, Besser continued to work in the entertainment industry, including appearing in several movies and TV shows. He also wrote for a few TV shows and made occasional appearances as a guest on television shows until he retired in the 1970s. Besser died on March 1, 1988, in North Hollywood, California, at the age of 80.
